How To Make  Black Paint

Though not strictly speaking a color, black is a very important part of illustrating and painting.

Different tones and shades of black can be mixed for different effects

So How do you Make Black Paint?

Mix equal amounts of primary colors, red, blue and yellow to create a nice thick shade of black.

Primary Colors

Start by mixing the blue paint with the magenta to create a vivid and warm shade of purple. Add yellow  to cancel out the purple and create very dark black.

Printing Primaries

These are less vivid and less bright. Start, similarly to the last method, by mixing the red and blue shades then add yellow to create black.

Other Primary Shades

For cool black colors, try mixing Phthalo Blue with Cadmium Orange or Ultramarine Blue with Burnt Umber

Using a Blue Base

Mix Phthalo Green and Alizarin Crimson or Phthalo Green and Quinacridone Red to get black.
